Fisk Descenders (Fisk Rescue Descender)

The Fisk Descender is a controlled descent device used in emergency rescue, rope access, and fall protection scenarios. It allows for smooth, safe lowering of personnel from heights or into confined spaces.

Key Features of Fisk Descenders

Controlled Descent – Provides a smooth and steady lowering of a person or load.
Self-Braking Mechanism – Automatically stops descent if the user releases the handle.
Bidirectional Operation – Can be used for both lowering and raising operations.
Durable Construction – Made of high-strength aluminum or steel for rugged use.
Compact & Lightweight – Easy to carry and deploy in rescue situations.

Common Applications

🔹 Confined Space Rescue – Used with tripod systems for safe entry and retrieval.
🔹 High-Angle Rescue – Ideal for fire departments and industrial rescue teams.
🔹 Rope Access & Work Positioning – Ensures safety while working at heights.
🔹 Evacuation & Emergency Escape – Helps individuals descend safely in emergencies.

How a Fisk Descender Works

  1. Attach Rope to Device – Thread the rope through the descender as per manufacturer instructions.
  2. Connect to Harness – Secure the user via a carabiner and full-body harness.
  3. Control Descent with Handle – Squeeze the handle to descend; release to engage braking.
  4. Automatic Braking – If the user lets go, the device locks, preventing free fall.

Confined Space & Rescue Systems

A confined space is defined as a work environment with limited or restricted entry and exit, typically characterized by access points smaller than 24 inches in diameter. All job sites classified as confined spaces must be equipped with OSHA-approved rescue equipment to ensure the safe retrieval of employees who may be unable to exit the hazardous area without assistance.
